Volunteers are vital at the Kansas Humane Society. As a private non-profit agency, we rely on the assistance of caring and hard-working volunteers in all of our programs throughout the year. Volunteers make a huge difference in the lives of our pets and our staff. Sign up to volunteer today or request a volunteer application by calling (316) 524-9196 or e-mailing Dayna Boso.
About Our Volunteer Program
We do require that each of our volunteers attend an orientation session, animal handling training and follow-up interview before beginning volunteer work. We must receive your completed volunteer application to reserve your space at the orientation.
Reminders will be emailed out one to two weeks prior to your class date. If you are unable to keep your scheduled session, please call 524-9196 or send us an e-mail. Space is limited. The two-hour animal handling training is approximately two weeks after the orientation.
We welcome children, ages 9 and up, to volunteer, as long as they are accompanied at all times by a parent/guardian. Any volunteer under the age of 18 must be with an adult at all times. If you are a parent/child team interested in volunteering we do ask that each of you fill out an application form.
Volunteer Orientation
Your orientation includes an introduction to the Kansas Humane Society ; the KHS past and present; Q & A session; explanation of Volunteer Positions; video “Power of Compassion” and tour of the shelter. Note: new volunteers must complete the orientation session, animal handling training and follow-up interview before beginning volunteer activities.
You will be notified if the session you wanted to attend is already full. Otherwise, we will see you on your chosen date. Thanks! Reminders will be emailed out.
Where: At the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, on the Murfin Animal Care Campus, K96 & N. Hillside. We will be meeting in Learning Center B. Please park in the northwest parking lot.
