KHS Pet Adoption
Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from the Kansas Humane Society! Our animal shelter gives you the opportunity for dog adoption, cat adoption, and other animals. KHS is dedicated to bringing pets and owners together to create a humane community.

KHS also adopts out rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, hamsters, gerbils, rats, and birds.
Holds
Holds are $50 and reserve a pet for you until closing time the following business day. Holds are processed in the order they are received and may be placed during or after business hours by calling 316-524-9196. If we do not answer, please leave a voicemail. The fee is applied towards your adoption; otherwise, the deposit is non-refundable and will be used by KHS to help additional animals in our care.
Dog-to-Dog Introductions
If you already have a dog and are looking for a new one, we offer dog-to-dog introductions to make sure both animals will get along!
Two counselors will control the dogs on separate leashes to create a neutral zone for both dogs in our play yard. Our counselors will look for positive and negative signs, see if the dogs do corrections, and if either dog shows signs of timidness or aggression. Afterward, they will recommend whether or not they think the dogs will coexist at your home and counsel you on steps to make sure it goes smoothly!
No appointment necessary, just visit us during business hours. The only time we cannot do dog-to-dog introductions is on event days.
PLEASE NOTE:
If you want to adopt immediately, please bring 2 separate vehicles or a kennel to put one of the dogs in. You can also place the dog on hold.
