We're thrilled that we help thousands of pets find new homes every year. Here are some recent submissions of Happy Tails! We also post a daily adoption recap post on our Facebook page: Kansas Humane Society.
“I just wanted to say this is the best dog I've ever had. He was previously Charlie. I adopted him in February. His name is now Iroh. I love him so much, and he has such a good life. He goes to doggy daycare twice a week. I'm a vet tech as well so I'd like to think I take very good care of him! ![]()
He means the world to me. Thank you so much for allowing me to adopt him.”
"She's perfect and is the best decision I've made!"
"Hickory (formerly Dr. Canned Heat) is loving life with Fern, who was adopted on the same day, and my two dogs, Maizie and Caelyn. She is such a happy kitty, and even though she has 3 legs, she gets around incredibly well!!"
"Fern (formerly Coconut) is thriving! She is a huge part of the family!!"
"She is doing great and is very spoiled!"
"Ralph is so happy in his new home. He is becoming increasingly comfortable with more people outside of our family and thriving with us. He is so well-behaved and so sweet."
"Prudence is such an amazing addition to the family! She is doing so good and is so spoiled! I love her so much!!"
"Cloud is a ball of energy. She is great with people, and while her older sister cat took a while to get used to her, she was always friendly. We renamed her Misty."
"We got Sugar from you guys back in 2022. When we first came to look for a new dog, we were not interested in Sugar at first, but when we came back the next day, we couldn't stop going to her. She had puppies when she came to you guys, and she was found on the street. You said her puppies were not up for adoption yet, but she was. We took her home, and she instantly became part of our family. We can't get enough of her and love her more and more every day."
"My husband and I adopted our sweet Stormi girl on May 26, 2021. She was either 6-9 months when we got her. I remember our drive home, wondering if she’d love us! Stormi has brought so much love and laughter into our lives. She does basically everything with us. Stormi loves car rides around the countryside looking for wildlife, pup cups, destroying her toys, watching the cows (her favorite animal), going to grandma and grandpa’s house, and best of all, being with mom and dad! We love celebrating and spoiling Stormi, especially on her gotcha day and her birthday every year. She is my pride and joy, and I couldn’t imagine life without her ❤️ We love you, Stormi girl!!"
"Phoebe (originally Coffee Order) makes our days sweeter each day. My husband, Sam, was ready to adopt his first cat in June 2022, and we decided to attend an adoption event KHS was hosting. We were one of the first in line and had “Coffee Order” heavy on our mind. We walked out that day with her, and she instantly became best friends with our other cat, Tres. The past four years with her have been an absolute joy. She’s spunky, a little sassy, and gives the best snuggles. Thank you, KHS, for playing a big role in helping find our best friend."
"We adopted both Eddie (now Loki) and Alanna (now Syloh)! Loki has been a cherished member of our family for three years now, and he’s the absolute best big brother to his fursilblings! He has two dog sisters, a sister cat, and a brother cat, and he gets along with each of them so well! Syloh is still just as sweet as the day we got her. She loves a good belly rub and is very much the center of attention!!"
"We had decided to get our daughter a puppy for her 10th birthday that year, and our first situation ended in a lot of heartbreak. We ended up telling her that she was getting a puppy and that she could pick one out. Not thinking it would be that day, we reluctantly said yes when she begged to go to the humane society. The puppies were yet to be on your page, but when we rounded the corner, there they were on the floor. She had one picked out the minute she laid eyes on them. She had my husband and myself reloaded your website every 30 minutes to see when they’d finally be available, and when they were, my husband raced her up there so that she could get her boy. She named him Moose, and he is now two years old. He sleeps with our daughter every single night, has learned all the commands from her, including learning to go, through his agility course that she saved money for. He has been one of the BEST dogs we have ever had. I’m a photographer, so perks for her that she gets many photo shoots with him. Here is the first one we did right when we got him, all the way to the last one we did. I just wanted to reach out with thanks for your part in bringing one of the most cherished members of our family to us!”
"I adopted Lily in October. She’s a smart, feisty little thing, but we love her to death, and she’s doing so well."
"Otis was adopted from KHS in May 2014 at around 1 year old. He was my first dog as an adult. He argued about everything! He lived a great life and passed at 12 years old on 10/23/25."
"Bubba, previously Wheel Jack, is the sweetest boy! He settled in almost immediately and has become like a little shadow since he hates being alone. He’s incredibly mischievous, chewing holes in blankets and opening doors, but thankfully, he doesn’t seem to like to eat furniture. He loves most people but is still a little wary around some other dogs, especially puppies. He loves to sunbathe, play in water (as long as it’s not the bath), and tote around his toys that are almost his size! He’s patient and sweet in every way, while still holding on to his crazy personality. He loves to run through the fields after his dad shoots something! He’s even learning to bring them back! Bubba has been the perfect addition to our little family, and we can’t imagine life without him!"
"Finnegan is not new, and I’ve had him since he was a tiny baby in 2018. But he’s continuing to live the good life. We call him the supervisor as he supervises his peasant humans doing chores, then has to take a nap because he’s so worn out from his hard work of supervising and biscuit making."
"I adopted Nellie a little over 8 years ago. She is my BESTEST friend in the whole entire world. She is my soul dog. There is nothing Nellie loves more than her mommy and bed (bonus if she has a heating pad). She is very spoiled and living her best life, as she deserves. She is the sweetest and most loyal baby ever. My sweet Nellie girl saved my life. I could write a book on how perfect she is. She is my world."
"Our beginning was rough as I realized I was NOT as prepared for a dog as I thought! However, Sky didn't give up on me and has proven to be a wonderful dog: amazing with training, very adaptable, great in the car, and the perfect adventure buddy. We like to go somewhere new every weekend to explore together. It has been an adjustment, but I can happily say now that he is my little guy and I would do anything to keep him happy and healthy. It's been amazing to see his personality shine from a shy shelter dog to a confident boy riling up all his playmates in daycare!"
"While I was volunteering with my grandma at KHS, we were walking down the kennels and saw a little tiny dog wagging his tail, happy to be there. We took him outside, he went to the bathroom, and wagged his tail at us. On the way home, I was thinking about him the whole way. I was talking to my grandpa as the rain was coming down, and he said to get him! I woke up at 6:30 the next day, and we were up at the Kansas Humane Society by 10:30 to make sure Nacho was gonna be ours. We filled out his paperwork and left. Then we took him to every store you could think of, and he fit in perfectly! I never knew a 6-pound (now 10-pound) dog could affect my life so much. I'm forever grateful for him and so happy we adopted him, he’s the best dog in the whole world!"
"Miss Mabel Mae has been a perfect addition to our family, and fits right in with our other Rottweiler, Chewy. They were instant best friends, and it’s been fun to watch Mabel flourish. When we adopted her, she was underweight at only 45 pounds, and they had very little information on her since she was found as a stray. I am happy to report that with patience, love, and training, Mabel is now well-mannered and at a healthy weight! We are so happy she is part of our family! ❤️"
"Benji (formerly Penguin) is the cutest rascal and fur-baby. We are so blessed to have him join our family and have not regretted it since!"
"We adopted sisters Willow and Lily, formerly "Messi and Dusty" in June 2025. They have been the sweetest addition to our family. Gentle but playful, they bring great joy. I highly recommend adopting 2 kittens together. They keep each other company and wear each other out playing and chasing. I feel they are less destructive in pairs!"
"We just adopted Kashi (formerly Kakashi), and he’s settled right in as the best boy ever. He sleeps on his bed, goes potty outside, and is such a cuddle bug! He’s done super well on walks, meeting other dogs, and isn’t even bothered by cats! He’s funny and sweet and practically perfect in every way. He’s settled in so well that it’s as if he’s always been with us. He’s our second Humane Society adoption - we had Captain, also the bestest boy ever, until he passed at age 14. Rescue pups are absolutely the best!"
"Tell us about your new pet!: Charley, formerly known as Pudge the Fish, is the most playful kitten! He enjoys stealing our kitchen towels off the stove, chasing his big brother, Bruce, hiding in his tunnel, and snuggling in the early hours of the morning. He is always making us laugh, especially when he leans back while hanging on to his scratching post or using furniture to drag himself around. We are so lucky to love this little guy."
"Coven is our little extrovert who gets excited to meet every person and animal that she comes across. She loves going to daycare and playing with all the other dogs! She loves playing with her kitty sisters (both from KHS)!"
"Finn has been the best dog we have gotten! We adopted him as a puppy and he has grown up to be the best Great Dane❤️"
“Bo Peep, who is now known as Nimbus, is the playful and loving kitty we had been searching for. Her rainy “gotcha day” and grey fur required a name change, and “Nimbus” has been most fitting; her thunderous personality and round nature make her our perfect cloud. In the year we have had her, Nimbus has learned many things about the world, including how to be a good sister to our other fur baby (also from the Humane Society), how to get the zoomies out, and how to make her family laugh from her shenanigans! We love our sweet Nimbus and are so happy we chose the Humane Society as the place to end our kitty search!"
"Nitro, now named Boots, has tripled in size and has bonded with our Shih Tzu, Squeak. They play constantly. Only shared sleeping space once so far, but spent the day chasing each other and sharing toys. Follows either me or my wife around the house. Loves his feet rubbed, and when he can sit still, having his belly pet. Too awesome of a kitty."
"A few months after we moved in, when the boxes were finally unpacked and the rooms started to feel like ours, we realized something was still missing, and then we met Shadow. From the moment we saw him, there was this instant connection, like he had been waiting for us just as much as we were unknowingly waiting for him. He was gentle and sweet, with those big, curious eyes, and the second we brought him home, he fit right in like he’d always been part of our little family."
"He is the best curtain/doorway climber I have ever met. We just love this little guy to pieces. He is either crazy and making us giggle or the best snuggler. The name he had was Bill Cipher, which definitely matched him. We couldn't have picked a better kitten."
"When we adopted Maggie, she was terrified of everybody and everything. She would barely let us touch her. Now she is the sweetest cuddle bug and loves to sit on my lap while we watch our shows!"
"We adopted Anna Lee in December. Just wanted to let you know she's thriving. Such a sweet soul. We call her Anna."
"Before getting Rocky Road, our home was full of love with two chocolate labs. Unfortunately, some complications arose, and we lost our girl, Ruby. Our boy, Bear, had lost his spark. We were sad, unsure about another dog, and then we saw Mr. Rocky Road! He’s so sweet, full of cuddles, loves ice and treats, hates the complete dark, and loves his big brother! They both have such a spark and play so often. Thank you for giving us our Rocky Road, it saved Bear and us just the same!"
"After losing our 14 year old kitty to cancer, we adopted Halo from KHS to help heal our broken hearts and she's been the purr-fect little addition to our family. We are completely in love with her cuteness and posh personality."
"In 2021, I adopted Milo from KHS, and he’s been my best friend ever since. He turned my lonely apartment into a warm, loving home. I love him so much and couldn’t have asked for a more perfect cat."
"Just wanted to update you on Moose. He's doing great and fitting into our home well! He's a mouth breather and loves to play! He shows affection with koala hugs and tongue blep ever so slightly."
